Postbox Supports Yahoo! Mail
Postbox works beautifully with Yahoo! Mail, a match made in heaven! But due to Yahoo's security model, there are just a few steps that need to be taken at Yahoo! online to get up and running.
There are two authentication methods, and if you have any issues logging into Yahoo at all, we recommend method 1, OAuth2. If this doesn't work for you, try method 2.
1) OAuth2 (recommended)
Generally, Postbox will attempt to use OAuth2 (Yahoo) for authentication when setting up an account at a Yahoo.com domain, and this is what we recommend.
- In Postbox, go to the File menu and select New > Mail Account.
- Enter your name and email address.
- Postbox will automatically select OAuth2 (Yahoo) for authentication. Proceed forward and authenticate online with your Yahoo login.
2) App Passwords
If you cannot use OAuth2, then you can use an App Password that you generate at Yahoo. Note that an App Password is different than your Yahoo login.
- Log into Yahoo on the web and navigate to Account Info > Account Security.
- If two-step verification is set to "ON:"
- Temporarily set two-step verification to "OFF" (you may turn this back after the account is set up in Postbox).
- On the left navigation panel, click Personal Info, then click back to Account Security to refresh the page.
- Set Allow apps that use less secure sign in to "ON."
- Select Generate App Password, then under the Select Your App pulldown, select "Other App".
- Enter Postbox in the text field, then click the Generate button.
- Copy the password, you'll need this password later when you set the account up in Postbox.
In the Postbox Account Wizard, enter your name and email address.
- If your address is joeblow@yahoo.com, only enter joeblow
- If your address is joeblow@ymail.com, enter joeblow@ymail.com
When you reach the settings confirmation page, change the Authentication type from OAuth2 to password.
Once your account attempts to connect, enter the App Password you generated.
