How to Migrate Settings to a New Profile

Overview

Here's how to migrate the following settings from an old profile to a new profile:

  • POP and Local Mail
  • Postbox Address Books, Signatures, Responses, Quick Posts, and Topics

For IMAP accounts, there is no need to migrate mail, simply setup your IMAP accounts and Postbox will download your messages from the server.

At this time we do not have a way to migrate message filters.

POP and Local Mail

Within the new Postbox profile, select Import from the File menu, and then select the following folder:

macOS
Home Folder /Library / Application Support / Postbox / Profiles / [your.profile] / Mail

(Note: In macOS the Library folder is hidden. To access it, open the Finder, hold the Option key, then select Library from the Go menu.)

Windows

Users \ [your username] \ AppData \ Roaming \ Postbox \ Profiles \ [your.profile] \ Mail

(Note: The AppData folder is folder is a hidden folder; to show hidden folders, open a Windows Explorer window and choose "Organize --> Folder and Search Options --> Folder Options --> View (tab) --> Show hidden files and folders".)

Local Mail will be imported under the On My Mac account (macOS) or Local Folders account (Windows).

Postbox Address Books, Signatures, Responses, and Topics

Within the OLD Profile

Create a new folder on your OS to hold your preferences files, and name it "postbox-prefs". The location can be anywhere you wish, but we prefer a Dropbox folder since they have online backups, and you can sync it across machines if you wish.

Go to Preferences / General, click the "Choose..." button in the lower right, and navigate to the "postbox-prefs" folder that you created. Once selected, close the Preferences panel.

Restart Postbox and boot into the new profile.

Within the New Profile

Go to Preferences / General, click the "Choose..." button in the lower right, and navigate to the "postbox-prefs" folder that you created. Once selected, close the Preferences panel.

Restart Postbox.
