Reset a profile - migrate your essential data to a new profile

If you have created a new profile and it fixes your Postbox issue, it is best to use the new profile, and migrate only your essential data.

Where are the files to migrate?

  1. On the menu bar, open the Help menu, and select Configuration Data.
  2. Click on the link beside Profile Directory. That will open your profile directory.

  3. Close Postbox.
IMPORTANT: Postbox should be closed when copying files between profiles.
  4. In your profile folder, go up one level to the Profiles folder. There will be a separate folder for each profile.

Files to copy

Messages and folders

IMAP:

Because messages are kept on the server, there is no need to copy over messages and folders.

POP:

When you create a mail account, a folder named after the mail server is created to hold for that account (for example /hhvati19.default/Mail/pop.mail.yahoo.com/). Your mail folders are contained in the files without extensions (Inbox, not Inbox.msf).

  1. Create the account in Postbox, so the folder for that account is created in your new profile.
  2. Close Postbox.
  3. Delete the contents of the new folder, and paste the mail files from your original profile in their place.

Filters

IMAP:

The ImapMailFilters folder

They will have been copied over with your messages
